When you join DVC, you buy a deeded real estate interest in a Disney Vacation Club resort. This deed comes with an annual allotment of points that you use to stay at the resorts and they replenish each year for the length of the deed.
DVC Points are used to book your vacation accommodations. Easiest way to think of it is smaller rooms (studios) take less points than larger rooms (2-3 bedrooms) and Christmas week takes more points than going mid-January. (Peak times / more expensive, Off Peak / less expensive), same as if you pay in cash.
Membership is based on a deeded real estate interest in one of the DVC resorts. Where you purchase into becomes known as your home resort and provides you with a reservation priority window.
Home resorts may be reserved as far as 11 months in advance of your stay while all of the other DVC resorts may be reserved at 7 months in advance.
Current DVC resale prices range from approximately in the $50’s to low $200’s per point. The initial purchase price of a Disney Vacation Club resale can vary based on several factors, some of which are size of the contract in points, resort and current point availability.
Disney’s Best Kept Secret can save you thousands of dollars on the purchase price by becoming a DVC Member through resale. The savings can be tremendous, anywhere from $20 to $80 per point. That savings can be used to spend on other things such as airfare travel, park tickets, kids college, etc.
As a DVC Member through a resale purchase, you can enjoy all of the 14 DVC resort properties, including Home Resort Priority at your resort of purchase. Members can also enjoy all of the World Passport Collection (Interval International).
In 1991, The Walt Disney Company launched the Disney Vacation Club, Disney’s version of a timeshare, so members could enjoy magical vacations for year after year staying at our best Deluxe resorts and eventually realize a tremendous savings & value on future trips.
The first resort was Old Key West, which has a nice relaxing vibe with Bob Marley / Jimmy Buffet music playing and members enjoy the largest of all DVC rooms here at this resort since was the 1st one!
DVC Members that did not purchase resale prior to April 4, 2016 must maintain a minimum of 150 direct purchased points to receive certain incidental benefits such as discounts on annual passes, dining and shopping and access to some Member Events.
Effective January 19, 2019, resale contracts purchased for the existing 14 Disney Vacation Club Resorts (DVC Resorts Opened Prior to 2019, commonly known as the 14 Legacy DVC Resorts) will only be able to exchange Points into those 14 Resorts.
Many members realize by purchasing resale and by utilizing certain things, such as Disney Visa card, discounted Disney gift cards, etc. you can still enjoy nice park discounts on food / merch and also take advantage of tremendous savings through resale.
DVC members receive mostly a 10% discount off food / merch (a FEW places give us 20% off, but rare). By having a Disney Visa card, you can receive the same 10% off food / merch but still enjoy the tremendous savings of buying through resale!
